BJP ministers are most irresponsible: Cong leader Dhruvanarayan

Govt is responsible for THO Dr Nagendra's death, says former MP Dhruvanarayan

Mysuru, August 21:- Expressing shock over Nanjangud taluk’s health officer (THO) Dr S R Nagendra’s suicide-death, former Chamarajanagar Member of Parliament and Congress leader R Dhruvanarayan on Friday (August 21) said it is unfortunate that a corona warrior’s end came in this manner.

The Congress leader was talking to reporters at Jaladarshini Guest House on Mysuru-Hunsur Road in the city.

He said, “The doctor was known for his fight against coronavirus pandemic and his contribution is invaluable. For the last one month, Dr Nagendra was working as additional health officer. His role after Jubilant Generics reported many positive cases should be appreciated. We could not save a good government servant. The district administration and the state government are responsible for his death.”

Hitting out at the state ministers, Dhruvanarayan said, “The state government should have hired more health officers when the coronavirus cases were spiralling. But our ministers were busy living in their own world. Rs 200 crore was looted in the purchase of ventilators, PPE kits, thermal scanners, testing kits. Rs 2,300 crore was gobbled up in the name of seal down in Bengaluru. With ministers’ showing little interest, the District Health Offices (DHOs) have turned into death traps.”

Lambasting the government, the Congress leader commented, “Risking their lives, the government doctors joined hands in the fight against coronavirus, but they have not been paid salaries for the last three months. Do we need a government like this when doctors are forced to end their life? Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar is cutting a sorry figure with loose statements. Due to protest by doctors in Mysuru, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar districts, many patients have gone untreated. The minister should resign immediately.”

District Congress president Dr B J Vijay Kumar and others were present at the press meet. (MR/KS)
