Mysuru, November 5:- “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage statewide protest on November 9 against Tipu Jayanti celebrations by state government,” said former deputy chief minister and BJP leader R Ashoka at a press meet held at a private hotel in the city on Monday.
“There is no need to observe the jayanti of anti-Kannada ruler and tyrant Tipu Sultan. He had killed thousands of innocent people in Kodagu District. Highlighting him now is an insult to the Hindus. The British came to India in 1779 for trade. Tipu Sultan had kept Mysuru Wodeyars under house arrest,” he said.
“If Tipu jayanti is observed, jihadis from Kerala will spoil the communal harmony in the state. Tipu jayanti should not be observed for the sake of votes. KFD, PFI and other organisations indulge in violence during Tipu jayanti celebrations. State government will only be responsible for the violence taking place due to Tipu jayanti. We will stage protest on November 9. Let the state government arrest us,” he challenged the government.
“Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is leaning towards Congress instead of taking a neutral stance. We oppose Tipu jayanti throughout the year. Pro Kannada organisataions should not support Tipu jayanti as he was against Kannada,” he added.
Speaking about Mandya by-elections, he said that the pamphlets of BJP have reached all the villages and expressed confidence that Dr Siddaramaiah of BJP will win the elections. He said that former chief minister Siddaramaiah can’t decide the winners and he should recall his own defeat in Chamundeshwari Constituency.
