Mysuru, April 17:- In all probability, BJP may field N Arun Kumar Gowda, a youth leader, against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Chamundeshwari constituency. Fairly a new face as far as experience is concerned, Arun will have to tackle the likes of JD(S) leader G T Devegowda besides Siddaramaiah in the Assembly elections in what promises to be a tough battle. Reliable sources from the BJP told CityToday that the BJP is expected to field Arun who is presently serving as the president of the BJP Chamundeshwari unit.
“The party is keen to field Arun, a youth leader from Vokkaliga community. Though there are many aspirants from Chamundeshwari constituency, Arun is likely to get the nod as the BJP thinks the young leader can attract youngsters and pose a serious threat to Siddaramaiah and Devegowda,” the sources said.
During his visit to the heritage city last time, BJP national president Amit Shah had said that the party would field a ‘surprise’ candidate from the Chamundeshwari Constituency. However, the candidate for the high-profile constituency has not been named in the two candidates’ lists announced by the BJP in the last few days.
BJP sources opined that Arun stands a better chance in the constituency as he knows the people of the constituency well and has been working as the president of the party unit.
Meanwhile, the names of BJP leaders including M Appanna, Hemanth Kumar Gowda, S R Gopal Rao and Kanya Shivamurthy are also making rounds but one will have to wait and see.
On its part, JD(S) is leaving no stone unturned to upset Siddaramaiah’s calculations. State JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy and party candidate Devegowda have been canvassing in the constituency to settle scores with the Chief Minister.
For BJP, though it is a tough proposition to take on two stalwarts in the business, it is hoping Arun can deliver goods.
All said and done, the Chamundeshwari constituency is witnessing high voltage political campaigns by candidates to seize the initiative. –(KK)
