Bomb threat at Mysuru Commercial Tax Office

Police yet to ascertain if it is a hoax call

Prime News, Karnataka, Mysuru, September 22:- A bomb threat at Mysuru Commercial Tax Office here on Wednesday (September 22) gave a few anxious moments to the staff, the officials and the public.

The government office is on Bidaram Krishnappa Road in Devaraja Mohalla. Soon after the news about the bomb spread like wildfire, the staff and the officials ran out of the office.

On getting the information, cops rushed to the spot with a bomb diffusion squad. Police asked people around the government office to go to a safer place. The entire area has been barricaded as a precautionary measure.

Commercial Taxes (Enforcement) Joint Commissioner Manjunath said, “Our office did not get any call. Some miscreant has sent a message to a constable, saying a bomb has been planted at our office.  We came to know about the bomb threat around 11.30 am. We stopped our work and came out along with 80 staffers.”

The purported threat letter was found at Lakshmipuram’s Auditor’s office which said the bomb would go off between 12 noon and 1 pm.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pradeep Gunti visited the spot for more information. He asked all the vehicles inside the premises to leave the spot.

The sniffer dog squad and the police are searching the entire complex to ascertain the authenticity of the threat call. It may take a couple of hours for the police to say if it is a hoax bomb threat. (MR/KS)
