Mysuru, January 3:- “Action will be taken to release funds of Rs 10 crore in the third phase to quicken the Botanical Garden work in Nanjangud town,” said MLA of Nanjangud, B Harshavardhan.
He was speaking after conducting ‘Bhumi puja’ (ground breaking ceremony) for the extended works of the Botanical Garden near Nanjangud IB on Thursday.
“It is the dream of Chamarajanagar MP V Srinivas Prasad to construct Botanical Garden at 19.23 acres of land on the bank of Kapila River like that of Ooty’s Botanical Garden. The blueprint for the garden was prepared at a cost of Rs 24 crore when he was the revenue minister. Rs 3 crore was released in the first phase. Rs 1 crore is spent on the maintenance of plants and managing the land. Now at a cost of Rs 1.85 crore compound wall will be constructed around the plot. Electricity supply will be provided and footpath will be constructed. Rs 10 crore will be released in 3rd phase for the museum, glasshouse and other development work. We have requested the District in-charge Minister V Somanna for the release of funds,” he added.
“The district in-charge minister has already inspected the area. The work will be done at a cost of Rs 50 crore. The blueprint is being prepared for it and the minister has assured of releasing funds once the blueprint is finalised. The wall is essential for the safety of the Botanical Garden,” he added.
The MLA held foundation stone laying for the construction of 100 Ashraya houses at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
Taluk panchayat president BS Mahadevappa, vice president Govindarajan, BJP ST Morcha state president Chikkatanga Naik, Kumbrahalli Subbanna and others were present. (MR/KS)
