Bribery case: Geologist Alphonsus set free

Mysuru, September 19:- Senior geologist of Mines and Geology Department Alphonsus, who was facing bribery charges, was on Wednesday set free by the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court.

The geologist was accused of taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to allow sand transportation. Judge Sudhindra Nath instructed the police to release the accused.

Lokayukta Police had arrested Alphonsus while taking Rs 1 lakh from one Basavaraj at his residence at Kuvempunagar in the city on March 27, 2010.

During the inquiry, Basavaraj told that he was working for one Nadakrishna and he was giving money to the geologist as instructed by him. But Nadakrishna denied he knew Basavaraj and told he was not working for his company, which resulted in the release of Alphonsus. (MR/KS).
