Budget this year is growth oriented: Economist

Noted economist Prof B M Kumaraswamy highlighted that the budget ensured greater stress on rural connectivity and electrification

“Fiscal discipline along with growth is the highlight of  this year’s Union Budget”, said Prof B M Kumaraswamy, a renowned Economist and Environmentalist at his talk  on Union Budget -2016-17 at a programme organised by the Departments of  Commerce and  Economics under the aegis of Forum for Economic Thinking at SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, recently.

In the opinion of Prof Kumaraswamy the Budget for the current fiscal year presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley can be rated high, as it has made sincere efforts to address the problem of rural economy with special emphasis on rural connectivity and 100% rural electrification.

“People generally look at the budget only from the point of view of taxes and public expenditure, but it has other dimensions too. This budget has made an attempt to strike a balance between fiscal discipline and economic growth and if this trend is continued in the subsequent budgets it will put the economy on the right path,” added Prof Kumaraswamy.
In his concluding remarks, the speaker opined that though planned investment on rural development and infrastructure was a welcoming step, proper execution and monitoring of the same was essential to achieve the expected outcome.
The talk was followed by an interactive session and the speaker responded to the queries and clarified the doubts raised by the audience.
