Wednesday morning turned out to be fatal for five people as a KSRTC bus and a private lorry, carrying rice, collided at Madhugiri village near Bannikuppe on the outskirts of Mysuru. In the gory accident that shook the otherwise silent village, five people died on the spot, while 15 others were grievously injured.
Bus driver Sadashiva, a resident of K R Pete, conductor B Devaraju, a resident of H D Kote, lorry driver Anji, cleaner Ramanji from Guntur, bus passenger Ramappa died on the spot. Mukunda from Sindhuvalli, Santosh, a resident of Malaganakere, Ramaswamy of Hirikyatanahalli, Tangamma of Srimangala, injured seriously, have been admitted to K R Hospital. Other passengers with minor injuries have been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
The bus was moving from Hunsur to Mysuru and the lorry, carring rice bags, was coming from Andhra Pradesh to Hunsur. Due to poor visibility, the accident may have taken place. Superintendent of Police, Ravi D Chennannavar, and Bilikere police and Hunsur rural police visited the spot and started investigation.
SP, after visiting the accident spot, said: “The accident, it seems, took place in the early hours. The hazy conditions may have led to the mishap. It looks like the bus driver tried to overtake a vehicle without seeing the lorry coming from the opposite direction. But right now, it is too early to comment. We have to wait for the complete report.”
