“I am ready to contest the by-election from Nanjangud if the party decides to field me taking my seniority into account,” said former MLC and state SC/ST Congress unit president Manjunath.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Manjunath said: “Though I was a prospective candidate during the 2012 Assembly elections, Srinivas Prasad was given the ticket to contest because of seniority. But now, the high command must take into account that I am the senior-most party worker in the region and give me the ticket to contest,” he said while trying to drive home a point.
“Congress is the oldest party in the country. It has seen rise of many leaders over the years. No leader is greater than the party itself,” he said, in a veiled attack against Prasad. He also urged the government to give more powers to the Lokayuktha in order to curb corruption in the state.
Congress leaders T S Ravikumar, Somasundar, Nanjundaswamy and others were spresent.
