Bylakuppe police raid stores, seize tobacco products sold in school vicinity

The Bylakuppe Police team led by Sub-In­spector Muddu Mahadev raided a retail stores opposite Bharat Matha School in Kuppa village on B M Road recently and seized beedis, cigarettes and tobacco products which were being sold within 100 metres radius from the school premises.

The raid was conducted by the police following a complaint from the school prin­cipal that the sale of tobacco products in the vicinity of the school may influence the students to take into bad habits.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the retail stores owner Nara­simha Murthy under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. Further investigations are on.
