Prime News, State, (New Delhi), March 22:-The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its in principle approval to the inclusion of two communities in Karnataka in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST).
According to the decision taken this evening, “Parivara and Talawara” will be “synonyms” of “Nayaka” in the list of STs in Karnataka.
It will fulfil a long-term demand of the Parivara and Talawara communities for Scheduled Tribe status in Karnataka, an official statement read.
People belonging to the Parivara and Talawara communities will be eligible for ST certificate and benefits meant for STs in the state which goes to polls in May.
The Karnataka government had recommended inclusion of the Parivara and Talawara communities as synonyms of “Nayaka”.
Karnataka Government had recommended for inclusion of “Parivara’ and Talawara’ communities as synonyms of ‘Nayaka’ appearing at SI. No. 38 in the list of Scheduled Tribes of the State of Karnataka.
The first specification of Scheduled Tribes in relation to a particular State or Union territory is by a notified Order of the President, after consultation with the State Government / UT concerned. Any subsequent inclusion in or exclusion from and other modifications in the list of Scheduled Tribes can be made only through an amending Act of Parliament.
