Mysuru, July 31:- Seer Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt has welcomed the decision of the state government to cancel the celebration of Tipu Jayanti as a government programme.
He was speaking to media in the city during his Chaturmasya Vrata on Wednesday.
“This move by the state government will stop all the disputes. Tipu is a controversial character. He was communal. He had butchered many Hindus. His cruelty was mentioned in several books. His governance was a death knell for Hindus. Due to his barbaric act, Iyengar community doesn’t celebrate Deepavali even today. Instead of Tipu Jayanti, the birth anniversary of any other noble leader from minority community can be observed,” he added.
He said that the earlier government had withdrawn the ban on cow slaughter and asked the new BJP government to re-implement it effectively. (MR/KS)
