Caste politics: MP Shivaramegowda faces heat

Mysuru, April 3:- A press meet held on Wednesday once again proved how caste politics is doing rounds in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.

“District Balija (Naidu) community condemns the statement of MP L Shivaramegowda, who claimed told that Sumalatha is a Naidu and how can she expect Vokkaliga votes? He should immediately take back his statement and apologise,” said vice-president of the District Balija Association, M D Srinivas at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Wednesday.

“Seeking votes in the name of caste is prohibited. For proper election, Janata Dal (Secular) should suspend Shivaramegowda immediately,” he said.

“According to Hindu Marriages Act, a woman belongs to the caste of her husband after marriage. Daughter-in-law of former chief minister Siddaramaiah is also from Naidu community. Our community never undermines any caste. But Shivaramegowda abusing Sumalatha and Darshan in the name of caste is not right,” said Kodagu District president of the association, T L Srinivas.

“Vokkaliga community and Balija community are living in harmony. But people like Shivaramegowda are breaking society. Sumalatha was a Naidu before marriage, but she is now a Vokkaliga. If Shivaramegowda doesn’t take back his statement and apologise, he will have to face legal consequences,” he warned.
