Prime News, National, Karnataka, New Delhi, May 28:- The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) today directed Karnataka government to release 9.19 TMC Cauvery River water to Tamil Nadu.
The CWMA held its third meeting today at the office of Union Water Resources Ministry and asked Karnataka to release 9.19 TMC water in the month of June 2019.
The directives come as a setback to Karnataka government as the storage level at the reservoirs is just enough to fulfill the drinking water needs of the people in the region.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government officials had urged the CWMA to direct Karnataka government to release 9.2 TMC water for the month of June.
TN government said since irrigation for Kuruvai crops will begin on June 1, the farmers in the Delta region are eagerly waiting for the release of the water.
It also urged that Tamil Nadu’s due share of Cauvery water should be released in the coming months following the Supreme court’s verdict. Apart from the 9.2 TMC of water, the representatives also asked to release 2 TMC of water due for the period between February and May. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
