Celebrate Deepavali without crackers: Bannur Raju

Mysuru, October 16:- Arivu on Monday organised 86th birth anniversary of former president of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and an awareness programme on  the impact of crackers at Akkana Balaga School here in the city.

Senior writer Bannur K Raju inaugurated the programme, by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Dr Kalam.

“Kalam was the 11th President of India. He is also known as the Missile Man of India. He was from an extremely poor background. He had affection for children and youths of the nation. To mark his memory, we should stop bursting crackers and instead, celebrate Deepavali with lights,” he said.

“Children have to implement the simple living and high thinking lifestyle of Dr Kalam. In his memory, we have to celebrate the festival in an eco friendly way. Deepavali should be celebrated with lights rather than sound,” said corporator M V Ramaprasad.

Jogi Manju, Vikram Aiyangar, Srikanth Kashyap, Raviteja, Sugunavathi of Akkana Balaga school were present. (MR/KS).
