The “revelation” that tiger numbers in India have increased is a plain sham and go beyond a conspiracy theory. Right here in Karnataka we hear of umpteen tiger deaths on a regular basis all over the state’s reserves. Most deaths are hushed up as territorial fights/ageing or a poaching attempt gone wrong. This is a spurious statistical output based on highly skewed data that relies on pug marks and the suspect camera trapping method. The findings must be open to an independent audit by popular agencies like WWF and Greenpeace if need be. Let us not be mistaken, amidst rising encroachments, rampant poaching through sophisticated arms a spurt like this is a blatant lie. We are witnessing what is easily the “censusgate” scam of today.
