As a part of its launch, a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Robotics and controls’ was also initiated at the centre.
Ramakrishne Gowda, Joint Director, District Industries Centre, Mysuru, inaugurated the newly established Centre for ‘Robotics and controls’ at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, on Thursday.
The Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation (KCTU) had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for setting up the centre, which will serve as a nodal Research and Development Centre on robotics in the region. The NIE management has also committed a matching fund of Rs 50 lakh.
S L Ramachandra, Director, NIE management committee presided. Niraj Godbole, Senior Executive, Business Development, Siemens Ltd., Thane, was the guest of honour. S.K.Lakshminarayana, Secretary, NIE management committee and Dr G L Shekar, Principal and CEO, NIE, was present.
The centre has been established in order to give fillip to basic research and development activity in robotics and control engineering. The centre has come up under the aegis of mechanical engineering department of NIE.
A weeklong Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Robotics and controls’ was also inaugurated by Niraj Godbole. Around 30 faculty members from various engineering colleges and 20 MTech students are taking part in the FDP, which will focus on the current technology and emerging research trends in the field of robotics and controls.
Eminent speakers from IITs, NITs, premier engineering colleges as well as the industry will share their experiences with the participants. Extensive laboratory sessions have been planned in various laboratories of NIE, namely, FMS laboratory, PLC and SCADA laboratory, as well as the robotics and controls laboratory. The FDP is coordinated by Dr N V Raghavendra and Dr K R Prakash, both Professors in the department of Mechanical Engineering at NIE.
