Chain snatching at Vidyaranyapuram: 4 policemen suspended

City Police Commissioner B Dayananda has suspended four constables from the Vidyaranyapuram police station for dereliction of duty. The action follows two cases of chain snatching in Vidyaranyapuram limits last week.

The suspension order was served on Subbanna, Maheshwar, Nanjundaswamy and Lingaraju.

On June 30, a chain snatching incident was reported from Vidyaranyapuram where 60-year-old Kathyayani was targeted in a crowded area. Kathyayani was walking towards Sterling Theatre barely 100 metres from her house to buy newspapers. As she was walking on the main road two bike-borne miscreants approached her and snatched her 90 gram chain.

This was the second chain snatching incident reported in less than a week. On June 28 morning, 65-year-old Lakshmi, a resident of Vidyaranyapuram Second Cross, was relieved of her 18 gram gold chain. Lakshmi had ventured out of her house at around 6:30 am to put rangoli. At 6:45 am two bike-borne criminals snatched her chain as soon as she got up after the rangoli ritual.

The criminals sped away with her 18 gram gold chain. In her statement to the police, she said that the youth had worn black helmet and she could not see their faces.
