Mysuru, August 21:- Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday (August 21) offered ‘bagina’ to Cauvery at KRS Reservoir after performing puja. The reservoir is in Srirangapatna taluk of Mandya district.
Prior to this, Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s district president Vedabrahma Dr Banuprakash Sharma began the proceedings with a special puja. Later on, Yediyurappa performed puja with haldi, kumkum and flowers.
Mandya district in-charge Minister K C Narayana Gowda, Mandya Member of Parliament Sumalatha Ambareesh, Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha, Chamaraja Constituency MLA L Nagendra and Srirangapattana MLA Ravindra Srikantaiah were present on the occasion.
Expressing happiness over the fact that all the reservoirs in the state are full, the chief minister said with copious rains in the last two weeks or so, all the rivers in the state are flowing in spate.
CM asks Mysuru DC to probe Dr Nagendra’s death
When the reporters tried to draw his attention to the suicide-death of Nanjangud taluk health officer (THO) Dr S R Nagendra on Thursday (August 20), Yediyurappa said, “It is sad news. I have already announced Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased. There is also a demand by the doctors for a thorough probe and they feel Nagendra’s death was due to pressure from the seniors. I have asked the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner to investigate the case and submit a report.”
The chief minister said, “If Dr Nagendra’s death is because of harassment by his superiors, strict action will be taken against those who are responsible for it. I expect the probe to be completed within a week.”
Dr Nagendra committed suicide at his residence in Alanahalli on Thursday morning. Government Hospital doctors and medical staff protested in front of the DHO’s office in Nazarbad in Mysuru on Friday morning (Aug 21). They complained of work pressure and harassment by the superiors. (MR/KS)
