Rs 10 crore allotted for drinking water

Madikeri, May 10:- Madikeri city council has decided to allot Rs 10 crore for the drinking water facility instead of Rs 15 crore out of the Rs 35 crore fund released for city development.

A special meeting of the council was held to discuss the allocation of funds. Members objected to the decision to allot Rs 15 crore for water supply and asked if there was enough money for other development activities.

MUDA president Chummi Devaiah expressed dissatisfaction over building tanks in the city without constructing check dams at Kunda Mesthry river. In reply,engineer Anand said a project to provide water to the city 24×7 has been prepared at a cost of Rs 75 crore. To build 4 tanks in the city, Rs 15 crore has been allotted.

All the members urged the council to allot Rs 10 crore for the construction of tanks instead of Rs 15 crore and the officials had to fall in line. Members also said that the waste management is not being done in a proper way and the household wastes are not collected.
