Mysuru City Corporation, it seems, has finally woken up to check the mushrooming illegal paying guest accommodations in the city. City
Today had published a special report on increasing illegal PG accommodations in the city on April 18. Taking cognizance of the
report, MCC officials raided a PG situated in front of Rotary School in Saraswathipuram today. After verifying the documents, the raid
team led by commissioner of Mysuru region-3 duly closed the PG.
The PG is run by one Anil, who got permission from the MCC to run a catering service and not a PG. He had kept 60 children as paying
guests in two floors in the same building. In fact, residents of the area had complained to the MCC several times that the PG was being run
without proper permission but no action was forthcoming.
There was a big drama when the MCC team raided the place. As soon as the team entered the building, Anil tried to stop them, saying he had
political clout. The commissioner informed that a complaint has been lodged against him at the Saraswathipuram police station.
Residents of the area backed the decision of the MCC and said the boys wandering in the locality without any time restriction had become a
nuisance. They also informed women and girls had to think twice before coming out of their houses.
Speaking to City today about the raid, Roopa said that such raids would continue in the coming days against illegal PGs. This should act
as a stern warning to other illegal PGs in the city. – KS
