Prime News, State, (Hassan), June 27:-A Class 10 student from Hassan district tests positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
The student appeared today for the Class 10 SSLC Exam, which began on June 25.
He had taken treatment for dengue and had given sample for Covid-19 test, too, after which he was declared positive.
The state health department is looking at measures to quarantine his contacts. Around eight lakh students are writing SSLC exams in Karnataka this year.
The government’s move had been questioned by various quarters including parents and opposition leaders, given the fears currently surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic but education department officials in the state say adequate precautions have been taken to ensure safety and security of both the students and staff conducting exams.
On Wednesday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar defended the move to conduct the exams saying “We have take this decision in the interest of students after consulting experts, opposition leaders and others. We have made all necessary arrangements and are following the standard operating procedure given by the Health Department.”
The exams were earlier scheduled from March 27 to April 9,but were put off as the lockdown was extended thrice up to May 31.
Students who shifted to their home town during the prolonged lockdown have been allowed to write the exams from the nearest centre where they are staying.
