This year’s Dasara food festival promises to offer an exciting and lip-smacking Mysuru Thali and Tribal food scheduled from October 1.
The organisers plan to conduct the event at two places to serve the purpose of meeting public demand and also decongesting the city centre and reducing traffic congestion.
Scouts and Guides Grounds, behind the office of the Deputy Commissioner will be one of the venues; the second venue will be selected among Lalitha Mahal Palace helipad grounds, J K Grounds, People’s Park and the vacant space behind the zoo where the circus is held every year.
Disclosing this at a preliminary meet jointly organised by DD Food and Civil Supplies and Dasara Food Sub Committee, K Rameshwarappa said: “The food mela will be held from October 1 to 9 at the Scouts and Guides Grounds, it will be held from October 1 to 11 at the second venue. The final decision on the second venue will be taken soon. The theme for this year is ‘Clean food is everyone’s right’.”
The highlight of this year’s mela will be special delicacies of the Mysuru region with thrust on tribal food like Bamboo Biriyani which was in great demand when introduced in 2014. Other cuisines include organic food, Mysore cuisine, food from Kodagu, coastal and Malnad region, north Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and North Indian cuisine.
The committee has also decided to take public opinion on Food Mela. Interesting suggestion from public is welcome, they can mail their advice to [email protected], he added.
Besides, seminars on important aspects related to healthy food, on hunger-free Karnataka, Ksheera Bhagya and special promotional activities to popularise millets and ragi by way of information on preparing various culinary items and organic products will also be held.
