Inaugurating the newly-constructed women’s hostel at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh by Sri Sarvajanika Kalidasa Vidyarthi Nilaya Trust and Vaderahalli Sri Suvarnamikhi Samskrithi Dhama of Kanakapura, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Monday, assured that all steps would be taken to construct a hostel for boys under initiative by Kurubara Sangha to help poor students.
The CM also inaugurated Sarvajanika Kalidasa Vidyarthinilaya Memorial Hall at T Marimallappa Block here.
“Land for Kuruba Sangha to construct a hostel will be allotted by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and the proposed hostel for boys will be able to accommodate 400 to 500 students,” he said.
The Kurubara Sangha is constructing the women’s hostel to facilitate 500 students on Hinkal Road towards which the state government has released Rs eight crore, he said.
“Social reformer Basavanna stressed on equality for women in the twelfth century and the Constitution of India too ensures the same. Educating a woman means educating the whole society. Implementation of policies to ensure equality alone can empower women truly,” noted the chief minister. Expressing dissatisfaction over poor performance by ministers even though they were assigned to single ministry, the chief minister lauded the contribution of former ministers T Mariappa for handling several ministries efficiently. This apart former chief ministers Kengal Hanumanthaiah, K C Reddy and B D Jatthi also handled many portfolios and were still able to function well, he recalled.
Akin to Dalits, women too have been deprived of education from time immemorial and this discrimination has to stop. Against this background, constructing a hostel for women is a healthy development, lauded Acharya Dr M Nagaraju of Sri Sarvajanika Kalidasa Vidyarthi Nilaya Trust.
