CM inaugurates women’s hostel in city

Inaugurating the newly-con­structed women’s hostel at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh by Sri Sarvajanika Kalidasa Vidyarthi Nilaya Trust and Vaderahalli Sri Suvarnamikhi Samskrithi Dhama of Kanaka­pura, Chief Minister Siddara­maiah, on Monday, assured that all steps would be taken to construct a hostel for boys under initiative by Kurubara Sangha to help poor students.

The CM also inaugurated Sarvajanika Kalidasa Vid­yarthinilaya Memorial Hall at T Marimallappa Block here.

“Land for Kuruba Sangha to construct a hostel will be al­lotted by Mysuru Urban Devel­opment Authority (MUDA) and the proposed hostel for boys will be able to accommodate 400 to 500 students,” he said.

The Kurubara Sangha is constructing the wom­en’s hostel to facilitate 500 students on Hinkal Road towards which the state government has released Rs eight crore, he said.

“Social reformer Basa­vanna stressed on equality for women in the twelfth cen­tury and the Constitution of India too ensures the same. Educating a woman means educating the whole soci­ety. Implementation of poli­cies to ensure equality alone can empower women truly,” noted the chief minister. Expressing dissatisfaction over poor performance by ministers even though they were assigned to single min­istry, the chief minister laud­ed the contribution of former ministers T Mariappa for handling several ministries efficiently. This apart former chief ministers Kengal Hanu­manthaiah, K C Reddy and B D Jatthi also handled many portfolios and were still able to function well, he recalled.

Akin to Dalits, women too have been deprived of educa­tion from time immemorial and this discrimination has to stop. Against this background, con­structing a hostel for women is a healthy development, lauded Acharya Dr M Nagaraju of Sri Sarvajanika Kalidasa Vidyarthi Nilaya  Trust.
