Mysuru, August 13:- The India Post has released a new postal stamp on the occasion of World Elephant Day.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy released the special postal cover at Mandakalli Airport in the city on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of India Posts Sandesh Mahadevappa said the special cover would be available to the public at all the main post offices here from Monday. The front portion of the cover has an image of an elephant, and the words ‘World Elephant Day’ are printed beside it in Kannada, English and Hindi.
Brought out by India Post, the postal cover is eco-friendly and is made of elephant dung. The officials said the paper to print the envelopes was procured from Kerala. In all, 5,000 such postal covers have been printed.
Karnataka is home to about 6,000 elephants, the highest in the country, according to Forest Department.
Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, Lok Sabha member R Dhruvanarayan and officials of forest and postal department were present. (MR/KS, NGB).
