Mysuru, September 23:- The Election Commission of India clarified that the election code of conduct applies to the constituencies that are facing by-elections in Karnataka. It has cleared the clouds of worry over the Mysuru Dasara celebrations.
The code of conduct in Hunsur Constituency which is facing the by-election on October 21 had caused worry over Dasara festivities. Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar had written to the Election Commission seeking an exception for Mysuru from the code of conduct. The Election Commission has clarified that the code of conduct will be in place in the constituency facing by-election and not in the entire district.
Deputy Commissioner had asked public representatives to not organise any meetings. The stage programme of Chunchanakatte Jalapathothsava was called off at the last minute. Minister KS Eshwarappa and media secretary to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Mahadeva Prakash cancelled their government programmes.
The deputy commissioner has now cleared that the election code of conduct applies only to Hunsur and the Dasara events will be unaffected. (MR/KS)
