Mysuru, December 29:-The gala event of the year, the Open Street Festival, part of the Mysuru Winter Festival-2017, is all set to take the Mysureans, especially the youngsters and visitors to a new world on Saturday in the city.
The stage is set for Mysuru Open Street Festival to kick-start from tomorrow (December 30).
Open Street festival, which is being organised for the second time in the heritage city after an overwhelming response by the Mysureans during its first trial on the World Tourism Day in September this year, is eagerly awaited by the youngsters during the festive spirit.
Open Street Festival is organised by the Karnataka Tourism Department in association with the Mysuru District Administration and the event is curated by city-based Centre Stage Events. A slew of events and performances have been lined up to create a carnival atmosphere on the busy Devaraj Urs Road, the heart of the commercial hub in the city.
From shopping to gaming, the young and old alike are ready to tap their foot to the scintillating music played during the Open Street Festival. In addition, well known Kannada singer and vocalist of Swarathma Band Vasu Dixit is coming up with ‘Vasu Dixit Collective’ to take the crowd on a refreshing musical journey.
Vehicular movement on the major commercial road (Devaraja Urs Road) in the city will be totally banned from 7 am to 9:30 pm and preparations are on to erect a huge stage for the performers. Temporary stalls will be set up to cater to the needs of the visitors from a wide range of culinary delights to saplings.
With intent to bring alive the colour with a dose of traditional style and a touch of glamour to the crowd present during the Open Street Festival, a traditional wear Fashion Show has been organised by the Department of Tourism.
Mysuru-based fashion entrepreneur Kaushal Vishu will be directing the Fashion Show organised exclusively for the Open Street Festival. The fashion show will feature three rounds, one from the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC), the second show from Kaushal Vishu who has conceptualised this unique show and will feature models wearing an exclusive collection of hand-painted sarees and kurtas and in the final round from the students of Queens School of Design.
Speaking to CityToday Kaushal Vishu said, “The Fashion Show will have three rounds featuring 10 female models and five male models and will be completely a traditional wear fashion show. In the first round, the models will adorn the silk sarees from KSIC and in the third round, models will display clothes made out of recycled waste and both the show will be directed by me.”
“I have conceptualised the third show and it will feature models wearing hand-painted sarees and hand-painted kurtas which are part of my Angada Collections,” he added.
Following a lot of complaints over the nuisance of noise during the first edition of Open Street Festival, this year the instruments which create noise pollution have been banned. In the wake of the Swachh Bharat campaign and as an extension to support in making Mysuru the cleanest city in 2018 ranking, the district administration and volunteers have joined hands for the Open Street Festival to say no to ‘litter.’ In a do’s and don’ts posters published on the official page of the Mysuru Winter Festival, instructions have been given to the participants attending the street festival. The participants are prohibited from smoking, using lighters, tins, cans, metal containers, firecrackers, sharp objects, sports gear and other noise making objects. The authorities also hold the right of admission and are also entitled to seize any prohibited items.
With just a day left now, all eyes are towards the launch of Open Street Festival.
