A grand procession, accompanied by hundreds of devotees amidst the beating of drums, was taken out through Devaraja Urs Road, here on Wednesday as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.
This year marks the 122nd year of the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav, collective public celebrations of the Ganesh Festival started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, to bring people together.
Bhajans and traditional dances from over 20 teams were also part of the vibrant procession. Even children dressed in colourful attires marched all along the route.
The celebrations from Veeranagere Ganapathi Temple was flagged off by Mysuru Kodagu M P Prathap Simha and sought divine blessings. As many as 25 Ganesha idols placed at various streets were taken on a procession in main streets of the city and immersed the idols at the Cauvery at Srirangapattana.
Elaborate measures were made for the immersion of Ganesha idols. Various organisations such as Dwidantha Yuvaka Sangha, Ramasena Unit, Vinayaka Yuva Sene, Jai Bhajarangi Yuva Sene, Tilak Nagara Hitharakshana Vedike and other forums took part in the procession.
The festivities began on September 5 and grand procession of Ganesha immersion marked the end finale of Ganesha Chathrthi.
A colourful procession was taken out in the city to mark the before Ganesha idols were immersed in the Cauvery on Wednesday.
