Colourful procession marks Valmiki Jayanti in Mysuru

Mysuru, October 24:- The heritage city is known for its perfection when it comes to conducting an event. There was festive mood all over the city with Valmiki Jayanti being celebrated with gaiety and fervour. The legendary Valmiki, who penned the epic Ramayana, is the man everyone remembers fondly. As a mark of respect, a grand procession was held here on Wednesday.

The event was organised by District Administration and Zilla Panchayat. The procession was inaugurated at the premises of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple. Various art troupes took part in the procession. The image of Maharshi Valmiki was carried in the procession. The procession was held from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple to Kalamandir here.

District In-charge Minister G T Devegowda inaugurated the procession by offering puja to Nandi Dhwaja and floral tributes to the portrait of Valmiki.

Artists depicting Bedara Kannappa, Keladi Shivappa Nayaka, Bichugatti Bharamanna Nayaka, Sindhura Lakshmana, Gandugali Kumara Rama, Ekalavya, Kargalli Mara Nayaka stole the show. Veeragase, dollu kunita, tiger dance and other art forms were also part of the procession.

MLAs L Nagendra, Dr Yatindra Siddaramaiah, former MLA Vasu, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, Superintendent of Police Amit Singh and others were present. (MR/KS).
