Compete to win but win fairly: Krishnakumar Natarajan

Over 900 students received their degree certificates and toppers bagged medals and endowments at the Graduation day of National Institute of Engineering held on Saturday.

The sixth batch of 933 students of the autonomous scheme at the National Institute of Engineering who were graduating was awarded with degree certificates.

Delivering the graduation day address, Executive chairman of Mindtree Limited Krishnakumar Natarajan said, “Students must define what their core values are and what they stand for, and these values are not so difficult to define. Values like honesty, integrity, consideration and sensitivity have survived for generations. Values are not in the words used to describe them, as much as in simple acts. How many of the students who have lived in this campus for 4 years has cared to wish the watchman of the college? We must always strive for excellence. One way of achieving excellence is by looking at those better than ourselves. Keep learning what they do differently. Emulate it. But excellence cannot be imposed from outside. We must also feel the need from within. It must become an obsession. It must involve not only our mind but also our heart and soul. Excellence is not an act but a habit. You must continuously strive to improve yourselves and ultimately your competition is no one outside- but yourself.”

“As we learn, we become knowledgeable and start to feel confident. It is important to apply that knowledge for impacting positive outcomes. It could be for the financial success of the company you work for or to change the life of others, but knowledge without action is useless and we must constantly strive to see how we can drive positive action through knowledge. As we embark upon the next stage of your life, there will be winners and there will be laggards. There is no socialism outside the campus. Those who win are those who believe they can. Compete to win but win fairly,” he added.

President of C V Associates Shashikumar distributed gold medals and endowment awards. 32 BE, 20 Mtech, 3 MCA rank holders and 7 PhD awardees were given gold medals. 32 students received the endowment awards.
