Confidence, communication skills important: Chethan Ram

Soft skills trainer Chethan Ram highlighted the changes we need to do in our existing system so that we can get tuned to the changing needs of the society.

He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Soft Skills and Personality Development’, organised by Department of Commerce, Sree Nataraja Residential First Grade College for Women as part of the special lecture series.

Addressing the students, he explained to students on how to develop their confidence and communication skills. “Though academics are of prime importance, the right skills for getting a good job are confidence and communication skills.” He also focused on the importance of persistent endeavors to be successful in this competitive world. Students were engaged in various activities.

“Applying your mind and logic to come up with a better solution would require the right skill set. In order to keep moving forward, one will always need to revisit their skill set and keep on reworking as per the requirements. Institutional education sets your mind on a path for ‘how to learn’, while skills development teaches you ‘how to apply’ what you have learnt. If all you know is theory, you are limiting yourself and your opportunity for career growth. In today’s time, soft skills such as language and communication skills, personality development skills, management skills and behavioural skills are some of the essential skills required while applying for a job. Your resume boasting your degrees might get you an interview, but it is your skills that will help you get the job.”

He added that the life skill education will enable teachers to translate knowledge, attitude and values for handling real life situations to the children, helping them decide what to do, when to do and how to do it with ease. This was also an approach towards integrated self-empowerment.

Principal, Sree Nataraja Residential First Grade College, Dr M Sharada, Convenor, Parivarthana School Srirangapattana, Principal Sree Nataraja PU College G Prasada Murthy, Head of the Department Commerce N G Lokesh and others were present.
