Congress workers stage protest; seek Mayor Bhagyavathi’s resignation

Mysuru, February 27:- Congress workers and leaders staged a protest in front of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) premises in the city on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Mayor Bhagyavathi.

The Congress had expelled Bhagyavathi recently from the party for six years for contesting the Mayoral polls against the party’s official candidate.

Minutes before the MCC budget presentation scheduled at the MCC Council Hall, Congress workers, including members of the Congress women’s unit, Congress SC/ST and OBC unit, Congress Seva Dal, Youth Congress, Students’ Union staged a protest against Bhagyavathi for defying the party’s whip and joining hands with the Opposition parties during during the Mayoral polls.

The agitators said that Bhagyavathi had filed the nomination papers at the behest of the JD(S) and the BJP corporators which helped her to win in the mayoral polls. This resulted in the Congress’ official candidate losing the contest.  “We demand her removal from the council and demand her resignation from the post of mayor.”

Mysuru City Congress Committee president R Murthy, Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) chairperson Mallige Veeresh, Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) chairman Siddaraju, former chairman of Karnataka State Women’s Commission Manjula Manasa and other Congress leaders were present. –(KS, KK)
