Congress protests against fuel prices hike

Mysuru, June 29:- Congress party staged a statewide protest against the central government condemning the increase in fuel prices here on Monday (June 29).

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the protest by riding a bicycle from his residence in Bengaluru to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office on Queen’s Road.

Congress leaders in Mysuru staged a protest in front of the party office. Congress city president R Murthy and District Congress president Dr B J Vijay Kumar led the protest.

They pulled a cart till the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office here and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar. They said that the Manmohan Singh government provided a subsidy to fuel even when fuel prices were more than 130 US Dollar per barrel. They opined that the Centre has hit the life of common man hard by increasing fuel prices. The fuel prices have increased by Rs 11 in the last 10 days.

MLC R Dharmasena, former MLA M K Somashekar, KPCC spokesperson M Lakshman, Sunil Bose, Pushpalatha Chikkanna, Latha Siddashetty, Hedatale Manjunath, Prakash Kumar, Basavaraj Nayak, Shivaprasad, Shivanna, Hunsur Basavanna, Pushpavalli, T B Chikkanna and others were present. (MR/KS)
