Congress workers’ convention on Sunday

A day after the Speaker K B Koliwad accepted the resignation of veteran Dalit leader V Srinivas Prasad, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Public Works and Mysuru District In-charge Minister, Dr H C Mahadevappa seem to be in damage-control mode.  The duo has directed the Mysuru District Congress to hold a convention of the Congress workers on Sunday at Nanjanagud.

The Mysuru District Congress Committee (MDCC) will hold a meeting ahead of the convention in Nanjanagud to discuss the possible ways to take on Prasad. The meeting on Saturday also aims at preparations for the by-election in Nanjanagud as the vacant assembly seat should be filled within six months.

Obviously annoyed by Prasad’s charges against them, Siddaramaiah and Mahadevappa want to take on the Dalit leader in his backyard.

The Nanjanagud Congress convention will also be a stage to promote Mahadevappa’s son Sunil Bose as the candidate for the by-election. Mahadevappa was trying to promote his son politically and the by- election seems to be a right opportunity, Sunil Bose, say sources.

As the Congress high command has left the choice of the candidate to the Chief Minister, Sunil Bose’s candidature looks bright. Even if he loses the contest, it will ensure him the ticket for the assembly polls in the 2018 elections. With the Assembly elections 18 months away, Siddaramaiah has a tough job on hand.

KPCC general secretary B Guruppa Naidu, in-charge of Mysuru Congress will lead the meeting on Saturday. The election strategies and the preparations for the convention are likely to be discussed in the meeting.
