Recalling the contribution of Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamy towards education and ensuring food security in the Mysuru region when it was reeling under drought, Agarakallu Mutt seer Siddamalla Swamy said: “When Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamy had no money to continue providing free food, shelter and education to students in Suttur Mutt, the seer pledged his golden casket and ring and continued his service to the rural poor students.”
He was speaking at the centenary celebrations of Suttur Mutt Shivarathri Rajendra Swamy at Yelanduru Veerashaiva Mutt recently.
He said that the seer personally visited residents of various areas in Mysuru in person and sought food grains and ensured that the students were fed at the mutt.
Besides, contributing to the field of education, the seer started schools and mutts in villages. It is thus a great pleasure that the Suttur Mutt under its successive pontiffshave been able to continue the services and realise the vision of Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamy.
District Sharana Sahitya Parishat President Duggahatti Mallikarjuna Swamy elaborated the services rendered by Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamy. As part of the event, Kesthuru Mutt seer distributed essential materials to school and mutts in Yelandur village.
Other dignitaries including Gowdara Basavanna, Nadagowda Guruswamy, lecturer P S Nagaraju, Mahadevaswamy, Village Panchayat members Puttasubbanna, Maharudraswamy, R Subbanna, Ambale Ravindra, Komaranapurada Veerabhadraswamy, Chandru, Ramesh, Shivalankar, Rajashekar, Boodithittu Shathish, Taluk Veerashaiva Youth Association President Honnuru Rachappa, Yaragamballi Mahadevaswamy and others were present during the occasion.
