Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University which is the 2nd of its kind in the country, is celebrating its second convocation tomorrow. The programme will be held at Nityotsava hall, JLB road, near Ballal Circle, Mysuru, between 11.30 and 12.30. Governor Vajubhai RudabhaiVala will preside over the convocation and the Pro – Chancellor and the Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddy will be present on the occasion. Renowned Violinist Dr L Subramaniam will deliver the convocation address.
The university will confer the honorary doctorates on three well known personalities in the field of music and performing arts during the second convocation. They are Prof Gowri Kuppuswami in Carnatic music- vocal, Prof N Rajamin, Hindustani music – instrumental (violin), Nadoja Enagi Balappain, drama (theatre).
While 47 candidates are receiving the degrees during the convocation, 17 students are receiving the gold medals, 3 students are receiving cash awards.
The highlight of the day will be performance by the former students of the yniversity. Harish will be playing saxophone, Kiranmayi will be singing Hindustani vocal and Kumari Surabhi will be singing Carnatic music between 10.00 AM to 11.15 AM.
