Coronavirus effect: Plea to help Brahmin community

Mysuru, April 16:- Office bearers of Akhila Karnataka Brahmana Mahasabha met the district in-charge minister ST Somashekhar and explained to him the problems of the community due to lockdown. Priests and cooking staff of the community are left to fend themselves with no source of income. They requested the minister for ration kits and foodgrains for the poor Brahmin families.

“More than 2 lakh Brahmin community members are living in Mysuru district. Around 1 lakh of them are poor. They hesitate to seek help. Brahmins’ Association is distributing groceries and ration to the needy. But we require government help,” said the president of cooking staff association, Srinivas Rao.

“Brahmin community has been working for the good of the world. Cooking staff belong to unorganised labours. I will discuss with the labour department to provide possible help. We have provided 1 acre of land for Brahmins’ graveyard. Rs 1 lakh has been provided for the building of Shankara Balaga,” the minister added.

BJP city president TS Srivathsa, HV Rajiv, MV Ramaprasad, Raghuram Vajapayee, Krishnamurthy, Yadunath, Prashanth, Apurva Suresh, Vikram Iyengar, Ajay Shastry, Rakesh Bhat and others were present. (MR\KS).
