Court orders life sentence to man for killing wife

The Second Additional District and Sessions Court has ordered life sentence to a man for stabbing his wife to death.

Iliyaz Pasha, a resident of Beedi Colony, killed his wife Heena Kauser at her aunt’s house in Shanthinagar on December 6, 2012. Udayagiri police had booked Iliyaz Pasha under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and Section 498-A (Cruelty by Husband).

It is learnt that Iliyaz suspected his wife’s fidelity and would frequently pick up quarrel. Iliyaz came to the house of his mother-in-law Zeenath to enquire about the whereabouts of his wife. When he learnt that Kauser was at her aunt’s house in Shanthinagar, he left the house after issuing a warning to Zeenath, saying that he would teach her daughter a lesson.

Iliyaz repeatedly stabbed his wife with a knife at her aunt’s house and fled the spot. Heena succumbed to injuries the next day at a hospital.

During the court hearing, a few witnesses turned hostile and tried to mislead the prosecution. Based on material evidence and statement of Kauser’s aunt Maqbool Unnissa and Nazma, a neighbour, the judge Vijay Kumar M Anand Shetty convicted Iliyaz.

The convict will also have to serve an additional one-year jail term if he fails to pay a fine of Rs 1,000.

Attack on Dalit youth, four arrested: Nanjangud rural police have arrested four persons in connection with the attack on a Dalit youth at Hulimavu in the taluk, recently.

Nagaraju, Revanna, Shivaprasad and Keerthi are the accused. Old rivalry is said to be the reason for the attack.

Sunil, with his friend Madhu, was returning home on his two-wheeler when a gang of 10 youths, belonging to upper caste, attacked and assaulted him and his friend Madhu. Both are being treated at the government hospital in the town.

A complaint was lodged with the rural police who arrested four persons on Wednesday. Search is on to nab the others involved in the attack.
