Prime News, National, Karnataka, Religion, Land, Infrastructure, Land, Mysuru, December 7:- In an early morning drive on the church land, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials and workers, with adequate police protection, demolished the compound wall of the Church of South India (CSI) Yesu Karunalaya Church at Karunapura in N R Mohalla, opposite Dr B R Ambedkar Circle (FTS Circle) in the city.
Meanwhile, Selvin Thomas, a parish member, Rev Elish Kumar and other committee members of the CSI Yesukarunalaya Church who spoke to City Today over the phone, alleged that the new Karnataka High Court Judge who was unaware of the 150-year-old history of the church, had passed orders to demolish the compound wall.
“The demolition drive was undertaken by MCC without any prior notice and there was no order from the previous high court judge to demolish the compound wall,” they said. The church committee members further said that they had all the valid documents to prove that the land was not encroached.
Following a writ petition by the CSI Yesu Karunalaya Church committee members in the High Court of Karnataka, the Judge has ordered for a survey of the land and submit the report before January 5, 2022, say the members.
“With regard to a public litigation, the previous HC judge had penalised the MCC commissioner and Zone 7 assistant commissioner of MCC with a Rs 25,000 fine and arrest warrant for contempt of court. They had skipped 11 hearings in the court,” allege the committee members.
“Two surveys were done by the officials as per the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner’s order in 2015 and a survey sketch in 2016,” the members said. (NGB, KS)
