“The aim of NSS Unit should be the implementation of principles of Mahatma Gandhi. NSS, started in 1969 as birth centennial of Mahatma Gandhi with the intention of empowering the youth, is now just restricted to cleaning campaign,” opined Gubbigudu Ramesh, Member, State NSS Advisory Board, Karnataka State Pre-University Education.
He was speaking after inaugurating daily activities of NSS unit of GSSS Badriprasadji PU College held at Bannimahakaaleshwari Temple, recently.
He insisted students to develop academic interest with the service mind.
Mahadevamma, Corporator of Siddhartha Nagar, emphasised that planting of saplings is important as well as to nurture them until they grow into a tree. She called upon students to join hands with them in nurturing plants.
About 35 neem saplings and 10 rosewood saplings were planted in the premises of the temple. A massive cleanliness drive was followed after the programme.
Secretary of GSSS (R) Vanaja B Pandit, Member and Co-ordinator GSSS (R) Nataraj B K, Principal Prashanth D S, NSS Programme Officer Thirthegowda S V, staff and students were present.
