Mysuru Dasara Executive Committee has decided to invite writer Chennaveera Kanavi to inaugurate the Dasara festivities on September 4.
Addressing the reporters, Distrcit In-Charge minister Dr H C Mahadevappa said that the 406th edition of Dasara will be inaugurated on October 1 between 11:40 am to 12 noon at Chamundi hill and draws to close on October 11 with the famous Vijayadashami procession. Mayor B L Bhyrappa and Deputy Commissioner D Randeep will visit Dharwad to extend official invitation to the poet.
Film, festival, food mela, wrestling and cultural programmes are among the events that have been lined up. Yuva Dasara, one of the much anticipated events during Dasara, will be held from the third day of Naada Habba. Film actors, artists, from across the country will perform during the event.
Dress rehearsals for the torch light parade will be held on October 10 at Banni Mantap grounds and will be open to public.
Minister Mahadevapa said, “We have constituted 17 sub-committees and appointed seniors officials to the post of executive president and secretary. The committee had sought Rs 14 crore in funds for the festival. The funds have not yet been approved. I will meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah soon and get the nod,” he assured.
