Dasara jumbo Khokila dies

Khokila, a 77-year-old Mysuru Dasara elephant, died due to illness at Murkal elephant camp in Nagarahole National Park on Thursday. The female elephant was suffering from respiratory issues and had lost all its teeth and was unable to chew food.

The elephant had also lost both its eyes and was shifted from Bhalle camp to Murkal. She was living with two other female elephants, Varalakshmi and Mary. Khokila had participated in over 20 Dasara festivals in Mysuru.

The autopsy on the elephant was conducted by veterinary doctor, Dr Udayashankar. Project Tiger director Manikantan, ACF Krishna Prasanna and other officials visited the spot.
