Dasara jumbos begin journey back to their camps

Mysuru, October 28:- Having taken part successfully in the Mysuru Dasara 2020 which concluded here on Monday (October 26), it is time for the Dasara jumbos to go back to their respective places. The five jumbos – Abhimanyu, Gopi, Vikrama, Kaveri and Vijaya – were given a warm send-off at the Mysuru Palace premises here on Wednesday (October 28). A traditional puja was offered to them before they began their journey to their camps.

In view of the coronavirus pandemic, the state government decided to have a simple Dasara and accordingly, most of the programmes that are usually part of the festivities were cancelled.

Most of the Dasara programmes were restricted to Chamundi Hills and Mysuru Palace. The Jamboo Savari, which is the highlight of the Dasara, was restricted to Palace premises and the parade was there for only 22 minutes. There were 300 attendees who witnessed the parade.

Before the elephants were given a send-off, titular king Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and his son Aadyaveer Narasimharaja met the mahouts and cavadis along with their wards.

Deputy Conservator of Forest M G Alexander and others were present. (MR/KS)
