Dasara jumbos start training with sandbags in Mysuru

Prime News, National, Karnataka, Festival, Mysuru, September 20:- With only a couple of weeks to go for the world-famous Mysuru Dasara, Mysuru Palace is buzzing with activities. The eight elephants are getting trained for the Dasara festivities.

Captain of the herd, Abhimanyu, who will be carrying the golden howdah on the last day of Mysuru Dasara, is being trained with sand bags on his back. All the jumbos were given traditional puja. Besides Abhimanyu, Dhnanjaya, Gopalaswamy, Ashwathama and Vikrama were also trained with sand bags on their backs.

Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Dr V Karikalan, Dr.Ramesh,  Palace Assistant Commissioner of Police Chandrashekar and officials were present.

Weight will be increased gradually and finally, a wooden howdah would be tied to Abhimanyu to get him acclimatised to the real weight of the golden howdah, said Dr Karikalan.

In view of the pandemic situation, Jamboo Savari has been restricted to Mysuru Palace premises.

On other occasions, the Dasara jumbos would start their journey from Mysuru Palace, go through K R Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, Sir M Visvesvaraya Circle (Ayurveda Circle), Subhash Chandra Bose Circle (Old RMC Circle), New Sayyaji Rao Road (Bamboo Bazaar), Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle (Highway Circle), Nelson Mandela Road and reach Bannimantap.
