Mysuru, October 9:- Dasara Sports Meet 2018 will be inaugurated at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at Nazarbad in the city tomorrow.
Earlier, it was planned to conduct the Sports Meet in Bengaluru to provide the required publicity for Dasara sports but sustained efforts of Higher Education and District In-charge Minister G T Devegowda resulted in the meet being held at Mysuru.
The meet will have all 23 events except for rifle shooting. Athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, kabaddi, kho – kho, netball, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and Wushu games will be organised. Eight reputed teams/athletes will be part of the sports meet. The government is giving emphasis to the sports meet to make it a grand success.
All the athletes participating in the meet will be provided food at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry from the night of October 9 to October 17 morning.
Potable drinking water will be provided to the athletes at sports venues and at places where they are put up. Athletes will also be provided with transport facility from the food court to their respective sports venues.
24×7 medical facility, ambulance, first aid will be made available for the athletes. A request has been made to the District Health and Family Welfare Department, K R Hospital and JSS Hospital for providing medical aid
Athletes will be given uniforms including T-shirts, tracksuits, shoes, socks. Winners will be awarded trophies, medals and cash.
The sports torch will be lit at Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills at 10:30 am tomorrow and will be taken in a procession through major areas of Mysuru and will arrive at Chamundi Vihar Stadium at 4 pm for the inauguration of the event.
Renowned athlete M R Poovamma, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Dputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar, District In-charge Minister G T Devegowda will be present.
Valedictory session will be held on October 16 at 4 pm. The Chief Minister and cabinet members will be present. (MR/KS).
