“The beginning of Dasara sports meet is the foreword for Dasara tradition of Hale Mysuru region. This tradition is still continued,” said J Yogish, member of Zilla Panchayat.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Dasara sports meet at Yalandur Pre-University College, organised by youth and sports department.
“Maharajas of Mysuru have given encouragement for sports in rural areas. Due to this, many villagers were able to achieve great heights in sports. This tradition is continued by the department to encourage the budding sportsmen. People regardless of their age, gender can take part in the meet. Sports meet is organised in every taluk centres to enable the local talents to participate,” he said.
“Yalandur taluk doesn’t possess a taluk stadium. Demand for the stadium is there since a long time. Still many talents have achieved a lot in national and international levels. Stadium will be construed here in the coming days,” he said.
Members of district panchayat Umavathi Siddaraju, taluk panchayat president Nanjundaiah, town municipal corporation president B Ravi, Assistant director in-charge of the sports department Cheluvaiah, Mamballi Nanjundaswamy, Rangaswamy, Gopala, Basavanna, Revanna and others were present.
