DC warns political leaders not to hold press conference; MLA Sa Ra Mahesh cancels press meet

Mysuru, December 4:- Janata Dal (Secular) MLA and former minister Sa Ra Mahesh cancelled a press conference that he had convened in view of the election code of conduct.

Mahesh had called for a press meet at his office on Ramavilas Road here on Wednesday at 11 am, but at around 10:30 am he received a caution message from the District Commissioner Abhiram G Shankar stating that political leaders should not hold any press meet nor give open statement until the Assembly by-elections are over in the Hunsur Constituency.

The district election officer said that “holding a press conference or giving interview to the media, starting from 6 pm of December 3 till the election process gets over will be a violation of Section 126 of the Democracy Act 1951.”

He also made it clear that broadcasting of such programmes in any media is a violation of the Act. MLA Mahesh cancelled the press meet following the directives from the DC. The legislator said that he would speak after the by-elections. (KS, NGB)
