Debt drives woman to commit suicide

Mysuru, October 16:- A woman who was unable to repay a small amount of loan allegedly committed suicide at Sagare village in Saragur taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Rekha (25), wife of one Venkatesh.

She committed suicide by jumping into the right bank canal of Kapila River. She had taken a loan of Rs 25,000 from Siddappaji Women’s Cooperative Union at J P Nagar in Mysuru. She was living in a rented house at J P Nagar. As she couldn’t repay the loan amount, she had gone to her parents house at Sagare. Following the failure to clear the loan, seven members of the union visited her parents’ house at Sagare and asked her to repay the money. With no source to repay the loan amount, Rekha committed suicide. She has a 5-year old son.

Saragur Police have registered a complaint. (KS, NGB)
