Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide

Mysuru, August 01:- A 35-year-old debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at Hunaganahalli village in Hunsur taluk in the district on Tuesday.

The deceased is Manjegowda, a resident of Hunaganahalli in Hunsur.

According to police sources, the farmer committed suicide by consuming poison when he was alone at his house in the village. It is alleged that the farmer who owned 5 acres of land in the village was growing tobacco, but suffered losses in the past few years. He had secured loans amounting up to Rs 2.5 lakh which allegedly pushed him to take this extreme step.

Though Mangegowda was rushed to a nearby hospital, he did not respond to the treatment and breathed his last.

A case has been registered at Hunsur Rural Police Station. -(KS, KK)
