Debt-ridden farmers end lives

Mysuru, February 7:- In separate incidents, two farmers, unable to repay loans, committed suicide.  In the first incident, Shankar (48) of Maradipura village of T Narasipur taluk, committed suicide by consuming poison. He had made loans up to Rs 4 lakh to grow sugarcane in his two-acre land. He committed suicide as he couldn’t repay the debts. Talakadu police have registered a complaint.

In the second case, Rajaiah (55) of Nadappanahalli of K R Nagar also ended life by consuming poison. He had borrowed a loan Rs 3 lakh from Cauvery Grameena Bank to grow tobacco, millet in his 2-acre land. But he didn’t get the expected yield. The bank had sent him a notice to repay the loans. Upset by the turn of events, the farmer committed suicide. K R Nagar police have registered a complaint. (MR/KS),
